I love Maurice's! Their bbq is great - mustard base is the best base! Try their buffet. It's insanely good. Tons of food for a decent price. Their fried chicken and macaroni and cheese are both great! And their sauce, which you can buy by the bottle, is good on almost everything. And their chocolate fudge cake sundae is one of my favorite desserts! (Maurice's children took over the business as far as I know and got rid of any racist propaganda etc. so that is no longer an issue. But if you don't want to go here because of Maurice's views, I can definitely understand that.)

If you like mustard sauce BBQ then this may be the place for you. They mix and slather the pulled pork and ribs on the stuff. It is not my favorite.

I love Maurice's BBQ.. Every time that I visit Columbia I go out of my way to eat at one of the Maurice's in town. On my last visit, going back to my brothers house in Lexington my wife and I stopped my this location ( one of many ) and got our eat on. Every time I've eaten at any of the Maurice's, it reminds me why I love South Carolina BBQ. I live in Hawaii and for some reason they believe that it's ok to put ketchup into their BBQ sauce, ya know, really what the hell are you thinking. We usually stock up for the trip along with Dukes mayo and a ton of South Carolina Gamecock attire. The service was friendly, but this location was more of a fast food stop than the original Piggie park in Cayce, good, but just not the same.

Pardon me while I put on my foodie shameface, but I've got a sad admission that's been racking me with guilt.... I had never had South Carolina style BBQ before. OK, OK... just put down your pitchforks and flaming torches. I know this was a personal fault and a serious hole in my full appreciation of the finer points of American BBQ. However, on my last drive through the state, I decided to remedy this immediately. I took to my Yelp app and it pointed me to the nearest purveyors of this excellent SC tradition. I screeched off the highway, pulled in and prepared to get educated. Anyone who knows me already knows I'm a self-confirmed rib junkie. Generally, my heart belongs to the vinegar-based goodness of a North Carolina-style BBQ. In fact, my response to those would normally be a Homer Simpson-esque drool. South Carolina does it a bit differently though. Using their award-winning mustard-based sauce, Maurice's Piggie Park slow cooks their ribs to ridiculously tender perfection. Then they slather on that bright yellow sauce. If you've never seen that before, don't fear it. Dive in. That stuff is GOLD. It has a tang and a punch you don't often find on ribs. I devoured my order, which also included fries, hushpuppies and some of the best baked beans I've ever wrapped my mouth around. Service was unbelievably sweet, and they obviously care for all of their customers and want to ensure you love what they're doing. I wish I could adopt the lady behind the counter as my auntie. She'd make sure I got a healthy dose of that sauce on a daily basis. Located right off the highway, this makes a satisfying pit stop. Don't forget to keep slopping on that sauce. You'll thank me.

The pulled pork was tender and there was a healthy sized portion on my sandwich. The hash was good also.

It took us a while to figure out what we wanted. The cashier gave us suggestions but completely failed to mention that there was a buffet going on that contained everything we ordered and was cheaper. That aside, the food is good and that SC Gold sauce is addicting. Grab a jug of it to go.

As a fan of BBQ across the country, I decided to give Maurice's BBQ a try as I was looking for a local BBQ joint for lunch that served the style of BBQ found in the South Carolina Midlands. I'm originally from KC and I like to try various local versions. The yellow BBQ sauce used here is pretty darn good. I ordered the 3 rib basket (came with hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw). The atmosphere seems like a fast food joint but the service is terribly slow. As for the ribs, I found them to be a bit tough. Overall, this place is OK and I would be willing to try other items on the menu (i.e. brisket, pulled pork, etc.).

We stopped for lunch while on a road trip through South Carolina, and chose Maurice's as an alternative to generic fast food. The servers recommended pulled pork, so we all chose pulled pork sandwiches with sides. The quantity of meat was about right for the bun (meaning the bun was filled to overflowing) and the meat was tender -- consistent with the hype about 24 hours of smoke cooking. The yellow mustard BBQ sauce was tasty and mild (we all added pepper sauce from the bottle on our table). I was especially impressed with the cole slaw. The slaw looks unappetizing (the veggies are chopped up very fine and the sauce is mostly white), but looks are deceiving. This slaw is unusually tasty. I couldn't figure out what's in it -- I think I detected little pieces of pickles, but I can't say for sure. As the only dine-in customers (there were others at the drive up window), we enjoyed friendly attention from the two women working behind the counter. Aside from their down home friendliness, the place didn't have a lot of atmosphere, but the "piggy park" seems to be about food, not atmosphere.
